Psalm for the Victims of Incest

If King David had been a woman, sexually abused by her own father, maybe
this Psalm would have been in the Bible.

It was written by a student of theology who, in analogy with Isaiah 59,
portrays God as a tender mother.

Psalm for the Abused

Lord, Maker of All,
listen to me and hear my cry.

My heart smoulders in anger,
rage burns my innermost being.
Hurt is inflicted on the innocent,
a burden crushed on their shoulder.

Like a pestering wound
their pain lies in wait
to burst open with unexpected vile.

In whom then, shall we put our hope ?

Our hope is in you alone, Great Healer,
for you are trustworthy,
the giver of life.

In our pain, the Lord draws us close
and comforts us from her breast.
With warmth and tenderness
she spreads her healing herbs
and cleanses our wounds and sores.

You watch over us and take delight.
Joy overtakes our sorrow
and our suffering becomes pure laughter.

With laughter I will praise you, Lord,
and joy shall fill my worship.

But you, evildoers and deceitful ones,
your weapons are tongues practiced in falsehood
your knives lies spilling from your lips.

To hide you mind from truth is your skill,
to hide from Yawheh your folly.

Yawheh will lift the veil of secrecy
and expose your ugly deeds.

In nakedness shall be your shame
and you will repent in ashes.
